Abstract

The article presents discussions on the literature about performance indicators for university libraries. It presents a concise report on the importance of evaluation procedures and performance measurements in organizations and libraries in general, especially university libraries. It is demonstrated that there is a great international but not Brazilian literature production on the topic. The use of a unique evaluation methodology (eu retiraria -one and the same model of) for all libraries was questioned. Further studies on this subject were suggested and the need of performance indicators for Brazilian university libraries was emphasized.
