Abstract

This article covers the self image that historical brazilian cities have regarding the conservation of their rich heritage. It also covers, on the other hand, the management actions taken for its use in cultural tourism. It comes  from  the  idea  that  the awareness of these cities, observed through the answers gave by public administrators to a questionnaire about the importance of their historical heritage, is  present in almost its totality,  but  the  policy  focused  on the touristic use is small, having few effective actions when it comes to get the city ready to  receive visitors, being almost always restrict to the initiatives that don’t drift far away from the conventional model which characterizes  a non-historical  city.
