Abstract

Traditionally, libraries are considered a space for study, research and reading. However, they play a fundamental role in building a physical space for leisure, integration, learning, reading, motivation and cooperation. The library is an important pedagogical resource in the teaching-learning process, supporting the teaching work and also meeting the institutional demands, space for knowledge production and permanence of the users. In this context, the objective of this work is to discuss and present the role of the library as a space that goes beyond research, reading and study, a space of leisure and socialization among the community it serves. Among the specific objectives are the presentation of the actions carried out by the IFSP-PEP library in the year 2017 and the discussion of the library space as a leisure and socialization environment among the individuals who attended the library in the same period. As a working methodology, diversified activities involving leisure, culture, reading, research, infotechnology and socialization were developed, providing the participants with experiences and experiences of access to knowledge in a playful and enjoyable way. The work sought to discuss and present the role of the library as an area of integration and leisure. Socialization was the area of most marked interest in the results, where the board games occupied a prominent place, acting as an attraction for permanence in the space of the library.
