Margareth Oliveira worked as a public school teacher at the Secretary of Education in Distrito Federal, Brazil, from 1998 to 2024. Her extensive career encompasses areas such as literacy, pedagogical coordination, involvement in creating and coordinating reading rooms, and teacher education. Her expertise in languages within the basic education system is particularly noteworthy. As a black woman, public school educator, and political activist, Margareth provides valuable insights in this videoconference interview, sharing her personal experiences and their impact on her professional becoming. The discussion addresses critical topics including public education policies, capitalist society, individualism, race, racism, and teacher illnesses, drawing connections between her past, present, and future.
