This is a descriptive study which seeks to define the profile and role of doulas. It was carried out in the Santa Marcelina Itaim Paulista Hospital with 9 doulas. The results showed: age between 26 and 71 years, 7 had at least one child. We found that doulas provide emotional support, physical comfort and guidance to delivery mothers, showing commitment to the mothers. The activity is recent in Brazil and has not been defined. This could provide greater care for women during pregnancy and not only at the time of delivery. They could work, for example, during puerperium and during breastfeeding.Downloads
