Abstract

This study is a review of the literature on the evolution of the family in history. It also contextualizes their forms of social, political, economic and cultural organization, from early times until the modern state. Our objective is to provide health professionals with a better comprehension of this institution, that has been a very important locus for the implementation of health practice.
