This is a descriptive and exploratory study on analgesia and sedation in intensive care. The objective is to describe intense pain and get to know the main anesthetics and sedatives used on patients in an intensive care unit. We concluded that it is necessary to assure sufficient analgesia before and during sedation, and also to monitor respiratory depression associated to the use of this medication through the continuous observation of ventilation/oxygenation, the physical presence of qualified personnel and the availability of resources to control the airways and artificial ventilation.Downloads
