Abstract

Brazil is becoming, more and more, a country of senior citizens, but society is not yet ready to receive them well. The University Open to Senior Citizens is an effort to empower senior citizens. This study was an attempt to find out why these people look up this University. We chose quantitative research with a phenomenological approach. According to the subjects of this study, the University is looked up in order to get away from loneliness, find activities to avoid idleness, a will to learn new things and a search for companionship of people of the same age and young people.
