Abstract

This is a systematic review of literature on father participation in childbirth and delivery in the databases MEDLINE, LILACS, CINAHL, DEDALUS/USP, COCHRANE, BDENF, CUIDEN and PORTAL CAPES, from 1995 to 2004. Twenty-eight publications were found. They included father participation as well as the psychological, social, cultural and genetic aspects of paternity. The use of scientific evidence in healthcare practice in a contextualized way brings about quality in birth and delivery care.
