This study used a qualitative approach and was carried out with nursing faculty at a college in the interior of the State of Minas Gerais. The objective was to identify the meaning of work for the faculty members; the factors related to psychic disorder at work and to verify how they deal with suffering/pleasure on the job.We found that the meaning of being a teacher involves personal recognition, mission and the exchange of experiences and that psychic suffering at work is related mainly to the lack of material and human resources, work overload, low salaries, discomfort in the physical environment, interpersonal relationships and the lack of privacy.Downloads
