Abstract

In this article we intend to present an analysis of the song Earth, part of the musical work I Ching, composed by Marco Antônio Guimarães with the Uakti Group - Artur Andrés, Paulo Santos and Décio Ramos. Earth is one of the eight Songs of the Trigrams which, together with the Dance of the Hexagrams, constitutes the score for the ballet I Ching. In this work, Marco developed a new form of musical notation, where the lines, whole and broken, of the trigrams and hexagrams of the I Ching, began to be used as rhythmic triggers. In addition, Guimarães developed arrangements, through the extensive variety of his new instruments, which generated important connections with the philosophical content of each trigram.
