Ethical commitment

(Des)troços: journal of radical thought adopts the principles of transparency and best practices in academic publications, following all the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for publishers of scientific journals.

Editors' Responsibilities

  1. Objectivity and non-discrimination standards: The Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Team, and the Editorial Board are responsible for ensuring the quality of published material, using objective criteria at all stages and avoiding any form of discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs.
  2. Confidentiality: Editors must preserve the integrity and confidentiality of the information provided by the journal's collaborators.
  3. Use of material: Editors are prohibited from using unpublished material for personal, group, or institutional benefit without the prior consent of the corresponding contributors.
  4. Duty of information: The Editorial Team is responsible for informing authors about the results of the evaluation of their submissions within an adequate period of time.
  5. Errata and retractions: The Editorial Team undertakes to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.
  6. Conflicts of interest: Editors will refuse to evaluate works in which there are conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative issues, or other connections with the authors, companies, or institutions related to the works.
  7. Involvement and cooperation in investigation: The Editor-in-Chief will take the necessary measures when ethical complaints related to a submitted or published work are presented.

Reviewer's responsibilities

  1. Objectivity and non-discrimination standards: The reviewers undertake to use explicit and objective criteria in their evaluations, avoiding any form of discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs of collaborators.
  2. Punctuality: The referee must notify the responsible editor in advance if they do not feel qualified to evaluate the submitted work or if they know that they will not be able to do so within the established deadline.
  3. Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all material entrusted to them confidentially. It is strictly prohibited to discuss, comment on, or use the material during the evaluation and publication process.
  4. Conflict of interest: The reviewer must immediately inform the existence of any conflict of interest related to competitive, collaborative issues, or other links with the authors, companies, or institutions involved in the work, refraining from evaluating it.
  5. Source identification: Reviewers must identify relevant excerpts that were not cited by the authors. Furthermore, if the reviewer becomes aware of any substantial similarity or overlap between the work in question and another published work, it is their responsibility to inform the responsible publisher of this situation.

Authors' responsibilities

  1. Originality and plagiarism: It is the responsibility of the authors to guarantee the originality of the submitted works and to correctly attribute citations to their sources according to the established guidelines. Any form of plagiarism, whether from third parties or self-plagiarism, is considered unethical and will not be accepted.
  2. Multiple or redundant publication: (Des)troços does not accept contributions that have been previously published unless they are explicitly declared as derivative productions and have licenses compatible with the International Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).
  3. Authorship and collaboration: The author responsible for the submission process must clearly indicate who contributed intellectually to the development of the material, including those who participated in the conception and production of the article, the writing of the text, and possible critical revisions. They should also identify those who made secondary or incidental contributions to its elaboration. Any inclusion or removal of authorship after submission must be properly justified.
  4. Data reliability: Authors must declare the reliability of the data used in the research and its recoverability from institutional repositories or other storage locations, except for data of a confidential nature, which should be justified by the author.
  5. Conflict of interests: Authors must declare any legal, employment, or financial relationships that may generate a conflict of interest in relation to the submitted work. All sources of financial support must be disclosed. The journal is not responsible for conflicts arising from the authorship of published works.

Ethical treatment for research involving human beings

When submitting research involving human subjects, it is necessary to provide the name of the ethics committee responsible for approving the study, as well as the instruments and a detailed description of the submission process. Once approved, this information must be included in the manuscript. All research information and statements must comply with Resolution No. 510 of the National Health Council.

In cases where research does not require ethics committee approval, authors must declare their exemption at the beginning of the submission process.

Procedure dispositions

Procedure for handling ethical violations

In the event of a violation of the rules and responsibilities set by the Journal or the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Editor-in-Chief will notify the authors and the parties involved, providing a description of the misconduct and the reasons for its classification. A period of 15 consecutive days will be given to present an appeal against the alleged infraction or provide justification for the inappropriate conduct. After assessing the seriousness of the act and the potential harm to the interests of third parties, the Editorial Team may impose the following sanctions:

  1. Revoke or remove the published contribution.
  2. Reject the contribution submitted for the editorial process.
  3. Prohibit publication in the journal for a minimum period of one calendar year, starting from the date of notification of rejection or revocation of the work.

Incorporation of errata and retractions

Once an error is identified in a published contribution, it can be corrected later through an editorial note or an erratum in the publication itself or in a new version, depending on the nature of the error. To request the inclusion of an erratum, please send an email to destrocos@direito.ufmg.br, indicating the page, paragraph, or footnote where the error is located and providing the desired correction to the Editorial Team. This request can be made up to 6 months after the publication of the work on the (Des)troços website.

Authors may withdraw a contribution submitted to (Des)troços before it is approved for double-blind peer review. If they choose to withdraw, they must raise the issue in writing and within the appropriate period by sending a communication to the Editor-in-Chief via email at destrocos@direito.ufmg.br. The Editorial Team will make a decision within 15 calendar days, and the authors involved will be informed of the decision. There is no right of appeal against this decision.

Comments, complaints, and appeals

Inquiries, comments, observations, complaints, or appeals can be sent to the email address destrocos@direito.ufmg.br. The Editorial Team will assess and respond accordingly within the appropriate timeframe.
