This article presents part of the final report of the diagnosis of museums of federal educational institutions (IFEs) carried out by the commission that advised the Museums Working Group of the National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education (Andifes), from data collected by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) and the Brazilian Institute of Museums (IBRAM), between September and October 2020. The information is structured in seven thematic blocks: Identification, Institutional characterization, Management instruments, Conditions of operation and security of the museum, Risk assessment, Collection and financing and Funding. The analysis identified potentials and vulnerable aspects of the museums, which were the basis for the final recommendations. The diagnosis aims to subsidize the formulation of a course of action for federal university museums, as provided by TCU’s decision 1.243/2019.
