Abstract
Over the time, Brazil received rocky material coming from Portugal and Italy for employment in various works, especially in addition interventios and renewal of “taste”. Some of this material was brought to the ornamentation of churches, with the use of colored marble inlays, mainly applied to buildings in coastal cities. In Minas Gerais, due to distance and the high cost, these materials have rarely been applied. Although, they used the painting of marble inlays and pretenses for decoration, as seen in churches, the oldest of the villages in Minas. Another techinique applied was the inlaid, with fragments of crockry, stones and shells. This paper deals with this type of ornamentation used in the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly in urban centers in Minas Gerais.
