Os canteiros de obras nas Minas Gerais Setecentistas: entre o comissionamento, a fabrica e o conhecimento que circula

Abstract

This study deals with the theme of construction sites in Minas Gerais in the 18th century and their importance as places for the circulation of knowledge related to the world of construction and ornamentation. Vila Rica and Mariana throughout the 1700s had numerous active construction sites. In the early years, there were works related to the construction and decoration of chapels and parish churches, construction of bridges, fountains and buildings to house public authorities. After that, the availability of resources and the variety of investors kept the artistic market quite buoyant throughout the 1700s. A variety of agents circulated through this environment and shaped their own experience, through the transposition of a Portuguese architectural culture, but which was adapted here with different characteristics. We sought to analyze the workshop, the construction site and the artistic-constructive factory, in order to understand the complex world of transmission of practical and intellective knowledge of the seventeenth century and to identify potential for its study.
