A decoração de brutescos da capela de Nossa Senhora da Paz na igreja do Colégio da Bahia, século XVII

Abstract

This paper aims to presente elements from the decoration program of the Society of Jesus for the College of Bahia. The temporary removal of sculptural elements for restoration revealed an extensive net of parietals paintings that is subjacent to the retabular structure of some altars. Flowers, vases among cards, phytoanthropomorphic hybrids includind the representation of the indian, results in a significant contingent of national grotesque and brutesco and provide new elements for studying the artistic speech and the iconographic program adopted by the religious in the church.
