Abstract

The opera Tiradentes, by Manoel Joaquim de Macedo Júnior (1845-1925), was composed based on the libretto by writer and politician Antônio Augusto de Lima (1859-1934). The orchestral lyrical drama, organized in four acts and 31 characters, deals with the Inconfidência Mineira movement that occurred between the years 1789 and 1792. Our text provides brief information about Lima's libretto and its relationship with Macedo's musical writing in construction of the character Marília.
