The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the quality of education, using the Education Quality Index for the third year of secondary school as a proxy, and formalization in the labor market in the state of Minas Gerais between 2013 and 2019. To this end, information from the Minas Gerais Social Responsibility Index (IMRS) is used and an econometric model with dynamic panel data is estimated. The results indicate that there is a direct relationship between the Education Quality Index and the formal employment rate. This shows that individuals with higher academic performance develop essential skills, which increase their insertion into the formal labor market. Based on the results found, public policies with an emphasis on improving the quality of education can be an effective way of raising the level of formalization in the labor market, contributing to the process of economic development in Minas Gerais
