Abstract

The present article aims to clarify the importance of study activity as a form of teaching organization focused on the development of students' theoretical thinking in the early years of schooling. It starts with the observation that, in everyday school practice, emphasis is often placed on preparing individuals for the labor market, with little attention given to the process of integral development and critical consciousness. Grounded in Historical-Cultural Theory and the contributions of authors such as Vygotsky, Leontiev, and Davídov, the text discusses the foundations of study activity, its specificities, structure, and the teacher’s role as a mediator of knowledge. Based on a theoretical-conceptual approach, the article analyzes the foundations, internal structure, and didactic conditions that enable the active appropriation of scientific knowledge. It highlights the need for an intentionally organized curriculum capable of promoting the appropriation of scientific concepts and the development of higher psychological functions such as analysis, reflection, and generalization. Study activity is thus presented as a privileged means for the formation of theoretical thinking and, consequently, for the full development of the human being.
