Women's work and agency in the dynamics of family generation in the quilombo of Barrinha, Bom Jesus da Lapa - Bahia

Abstract

The text presents part of the data from a doctoral research, problematizing the quilombola women's agency. The qualitative research aimed to know how quilombola women manifest their agency in their trajectories crossed by social markers of difference such as gender, race and generation, considering changes and permanences between family generations. The theoretical and methodological perspective elects, mainly, the theorists Crenshaw (2002), Davis (2016), hooks (2000) Collins (2016) and Carneiro (2003), privileging the interlocution with black feminist thought. The trajectories are discussed from testimonies and the groups of women heard follow two age cuts, namely 27 to 38 years old and 55 to 69 years old, who are mothers of the women in the first cut. The study reveals the insertion of some of them in occupations considered as masculine by the group, such as fishing work and boat driving. But all the care work remains a female assignment, and among those involved in these tasks are mothers, relatives, neighbors, and grandmothers.
