Creation and validation of and oral health educational memory game

Aim: The objective of this study was to develop and validate the content of an educational memory game (MEMÓDENTE) about oral health for children.
Methods: A bibliographic search for content development was carried out in books and national and international guidelines on oral health in pediatric dentistry. The game cards were developed in a “questions and answers” format, where the pair of cards is complementary in terms of content and design. After textual and graphic development, the game was submitted to content validation where nine pediatric dentistry specialists (judges) evaluated the clarity and relevance on the content of the game cards. The content validity index (CVI) for each card (C-CVI) and for the game as a whole (J-CVI) was calculated. The judges’ suggestions were evaluated, and those considered relevant were incorporated. For face validation, children and adolescents evaluated the cards regarding the comprehension of their content and the representativeness of the images used, and the content validity coefficient (CVC) was calculated.
Results: Two pairs of cards were excluded after the judges’ evaluation, the C-IVC ranged from 0.78 to 1.0, and the J-IVC after modifications and exclusion of irrelevant cards was 1.0. Twenty children and adolescents participated in the face validation and evaluated the 12 pairs of cards retained after content validation, where the CVC of each pair of cards ranged from 0.9 to 1.0, representing that all pairs were considered acceptable.
Conclusion: The MEMÓDENTE game had its content and face validation and can be used for children and adolescents. This game can be a complementary tool in oral health education in pediatric dentistry.
