Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the variation of temperature on the dental pulp cavity when bleaching teeth using different external light sources and bleaching materials. This study used 20 upper central incisors, which were divided into four groups: G1 - halogen light and Whitness HP, G2 - halogen light and Whitness HP MAXX, G3 - LED light and Whitness HP, and G4 - LED light and Whitness HP MAXX. All teeth had their temperature taken before and during the application of light, with and without the bleaching material, and noted the initial, final and maximum temperature reached. The average temperature obtained by halogen light using Whiteness HP and Whiteness HP MAXX was 3.1° and 3.7°, respectively, and by LED light was -0.6° and -0.2°C, which showed a significant difference between G1xG3, G2xG3 and G1xG4. It could therefore be concluded that halogen light increased the temperature of the dental pulp cavity, whereas LED light produced no increase in temperature.
