Narcissus’ “hostipitality”:

the foreigner in the face of the State, the Law and Justice

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the increasingly urgent situation of foreigners and their relationship with the State, the laws and with justice. To this end, a question about the “fair act” of the State was asked, considering that the foreigner, as the other, disturbs State’s imagined identity, consisting, then, in a form of danger to its self. The question posed, however, does not intend to be answered from the point of view of the mere correspondence between fact and norm, or even from the point of view of humanitarian discourse, but under the sign of deconstruction. Thus, after tracing the narcissistic genesis of this political form – the State –, we sought to think about it from the perspective of the French-Algerian philosopher Jacques Derrida and his “absolute hospitality”, with a brief excursion into the specific case of Brazilian legislation on migration.
