Abstract

Citizenship education is not a spontaneous product of school education. In times attacks on democracy, this issue gains renewed importance. We sustain the argument that school work on citizenship education is associated with the development of certain student attitudes that require a complex articulation between the pedagogical and organizational dimensions of the school. In Brazil, policies that have this aim are still scarce. However, based on the data presented by the extensive research carried out by CAEd/UFJF, we found that the implementation of the National Common Curricular Base (Base Nacional Comum Curricular) (BNCC) in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education gave rise to a process of strengthening aspects related to education for citizenship.

  • MARCELO BURGOS, PUC-RIO

    Marcelo Burgos é doutor em sociologia pelo Iuperj, e desde 2000 é professor e pesquisador do Departamento de Ciências Sociais da PUC-Rio. Além disso, desde 2010 é pesquisador Senior do CAEd/UFJF. Tem realizado pesquisas nas áreas da sociologia urbana, sociologia do direito e sociologia da educação. Entre outros trabalhos e inúmeros artigos, publicou os livros A Utopia da Comunidade. Rio das Pedras, uma favela Carioca (Loyola/PUC-Rio, 2002), A Escola e a Favela (Pallas, 2009), Corpo e Alma da Magistratura Brasileira (Revan, 1997), Judicialização da Política e das Relações Sociais no Brasil (Revan, 1999), e a Escola e o Mundo do Aluno (Garamond, 2015). Mais recentemente vem realizando pesquisas sobre a BNCC, o Novo Ensino Médio, e a relação da escola com as redes de proteção social. Entre outros artigos sobre o tema, destacam-se “Base Nacional Comum Curricular: impacto sobre a cultura profissional e a forma escolar” (Revista Brasileira de Estudos Pedagógicos, 2024); A dupla hermenêutica da sociologia da educação: a educação das novas gerações e a organização escolar (Lua Nova, Série 110, 2020); e Redes de proteção e a decantação dos direitos das crianças (Tempo social. V.32, 2000).
