There is a feedback relationship between editorial work and editorial policies that plays an important operational role in scientific activities involving authors, editors, evaluators, research funding agencies, journal indexing bases, among other agents. In this sense, a specific and consensual definition of the concept of editorial policies can contribute to the regulation of scientific publishing. In this sense, this work aimed to analyze the relationship between the information available on the websites of journals in the Education area and their editorial policies, as well as defining a concept of “editorial policies”. In this research with an interpretative paradigm and a qualitative nature, a documentary and thematic analysis was carried out on five of the information available on the journal websites in stratum A1 of Qualis CAPES. The data was organized into three main categories: about the magazine, editorial flow, and ethical issues. Based on this, a definition of editorial policies of a normative, technical and political nature was proposed which, by claiming a consensual character, can contribute to the operability of editorial work and decision-making in activities related to scientific publishing.
