About the Journal

Educação em Revista is a publication of the Graduate Program in Education: Knowledge and Social Inclusion of the School of Education of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (FaE/UFMG). It aims to contribute to disseminating scientific knowledge in the field of education, produced by researchers from universities and research institutions in Brazil and abroad. The journal publishes in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, original manuscripts from different theoretical and methodological perspectives, which effectively contribute to the academic debate on the various dimensions of education.

History

Educação em Revista - UFMG was created in 1985 with the edition of two annual issues. In 2009, its periodicity became quarterly, seeking to respond more quickly to the presented demand. In 2011, the ahead-of-print system was implemented, in which the articles approved are previously disseminated before definitive publication in a journal. Educação em Revista was the first Brazilian educational journal to implement this type of publication. In 2012, the journal changed its frequency again, adopting a quarterly publication.

In 2016, the journal opted for the exclusively electronic format and, from 2017, its publication was continuous, which allows for greater agility and greater transparency in the processing of manuscripts. With this measure, it was possible to increase by 25% the papers published annually. Due to this background, it appears that the journal Educação em Revista has become a vehicle recognized by the national and international academic community and sought after by researchers for the publication of their manuscripts.

In 2021, according to Open Science, Educação em Revista started to adopt an editorial policy involving the acceptance of preprints, the availability of supplementary research materials, and the opening of the peer review process. It is important to highlight that the experience with open peer review began in 2023. The contribution of section editors is duly credited in the published article that underwent open review. The evaluators receive a declaration of the opinion of the manuscript and can also validate the activity in Publons. With these practices, Educação em Revista seeks to promote greater transparency in the processes of knowledge production, as well as to provide for the sharing and reuse of data and other research content.

Open Science proposes guidelines for collaborative, shared, and public scientific practice. In line with these principles, Educação em Revista started to adopt a series of practices such as the open access policy, the code of good practices, and the use of social media to disseminate published papers. For articles with multiple authors, an indication of the role of each author is required. Also, the sharing of analysis data, instruments, scripts, and materials made available in online repositories such as SciELO, Zenodo, Figshare, and OSF is encouraged, and the link must be disclosed in the paper. Authors should choose file formats from which data can be extracted, aiming to maximize accessibility and reuse of the dataset. If they cannot be published, this information must be indicated in the manuscript.

Educação em Revista is classified in Qualis-Capes as A1, since 2013, in the areas of Education, Linguistics and Arts, and Philosophy/Theology. It is one of the journals classified as “specific to the educational area” in an evaluation promoted by the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Education – ANPEd (Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Educação) in 2006 when it received the mention “Nacional A”. In Qualis Capes 2017-2020, Educação em Revista remained at A1.
