Abstract

This paper deals with the formative idea of the eros at Plato's Symposium, based on Michel Foucault's second volume of his History of Sexuality - The Uses of Pleasure. First of all, the essay reconstructed the architecture of Foucault's research about the aphrodisia, divided it into dietetic, economic and erotic, and locating the dialectic of love within the erotic. Then, it focuses on the formative character of the platonic Symposium, highlighting, particularly, the reciprocity between erasta (the lover) and eromenon (the beloved), and assuming that the ontological shift of the dialectic of love point, directly, to an ethical-formative dimension of eros, and this according to the dialogue's argument, because the eros related to individual and particular beauty (in other words, with contingent and empirical) is only surpassed by the universal perspective of love by allowing one (the erasta) to assume the position of the other (the eromenos) and vice versa.
