Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the regulations that guided the construction of buildings for the children of graduated primary schools in Brazil, specifically those located in the State of Paraná, between the years 1901-1938. The problematization that I propose places the child as the main user of this architecture, which, in the discourse of government regulations, was organized to house, protect and train future citizens and workers of the young Brazilian republic. The analytical components adopted in this research reinforce the importance of studies on architecture aimed at the school universe, which, on the one hand, highlight that the normative grammar adopted in the various regulations and other construction documents for school buildings, were specific readings originating from the adult context of the political authorities, educators, doctors and hygienists in the elaboration of measures on the best way to shape the child in the school space. The choice of the first decade of the 20th century to set the stage for this research is justified because it was a period of frank expansion of Brazilian school architecture. Across the country, there was an increase in the demand for schooling and, consequently, the construction of new schools, which caused the need to review and prepare more recent versions of normative regulations aimed at the construction of school buildings.

Professor Titular de História da Educação da Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), com Pós-doutorado pela École Nationale Supérieure d´Architecture de Versailles, França (2007-2008) e aperfeiçoamento em Arquitetura Escolar pela Université du Québec à Montréal (2004). É bacharel e licenciado em História pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1991), mestre em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (1993) e doutor em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (1999). Pesquisador do CNPq, editor-chefe da Educar em Revista (2002-2003 / 2013 -2014) e editor-adjunto (2015-2016l), Editor de Seção da Revista Brasileira de Educação (2016-2019), Coeditor da Revista Brasileira de Educação (2020-atual). Integra os conselhos editoriais da Revista de História da Educação (ASPHE), e Educação (PUC-RS). Eleito vice-diretor da Faculdade de Educação da Universidade Federal do Paraná, gestão 2014-2018, Coordenador do GT de História da Educação da ANPED, gestão 2011-2013 e Diretor da Regional Sul da Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação, gestão 2011-2013. Foi bolsista pesquisador visitante do CNPq na Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (2011), Tel Aviv University, Israel (2011) e Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel (2015) . É membro da comissão de avaliação da Área Interdisciplinar da CAPES na Câmara II (Ciências Sociais e Aplicadas e Humanidades), tendo anteriormente participado da comissão de avaliação da Educação da CAPES. Integrante do Conselho Diretor da Agência de Inovação da UFPR. Coordenador Suplente do Comitê Assessor de Área - Ciências Humanas da Fundação Araucária (2014-2016) e atua como consultor ad hoc da FAPESC, FAPITEC, FAPESP, FAPERJ, FAPES, FAPEPI, Fundação Fullbright, SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online, Conseil International des Études Canadiennes, CAPES e CNPQ. Fundador do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas em História da Arquitetura Escolar (NEPHArqE) e do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisa em História da Educação e Modernidade (NEPHEM). Sócio fundador da Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação, membership da Society of Architectural Historians e da Association Française des Historiens de l´´ Architecture e afiliado da Associação dos Amigos do Museu Oscar Niemeyer. Tem experiência de pesquisa na área de História, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Arquitetura Escolar, Culturas Escolares, Fotografias Escolares, Colégios Confessionais.
