Abstract

This article analyzes the trajectory of psychologist Maria Helena Novaes and her relationships with the art education projects under discussion in the Brazilian context of the 1970s. Dialoguing with Levi and Bourdieu's reflections, we focus on their biographical path and respective fields of activity, as well as on the main productions, especially those related to art and creativity in the educational context, using, as privileged sources, texts published in the newspaper Arte & Educação and her book entitled Psychology of Creativity. Dialoguing with Levi and Bourdieu's reflections, the focus is on their biographical path and respective fields of action, as well as on the main productions, especially those related to art and creativity in the educational context. The privileged sources are texts published in the newspaper Arte & Educação and her book Psicologia da Criatividade. At a time when the search for the development of creativity was the object of several fields of knowledge, she engaged in the debate and actions for the establishment of school psychology, in favor of art in education and in the defense of creativity as an essential element for human formation. Acting in favor of the development of creativity in teacher training through courses, lectures and various writings at a time when there was still no consolidated higher education in the areas of teaching art and even psychology, the educator inserted herself in education projects in art and assumed the role of intervention in the Brazilian educational field.
