Abstract

The present work reports the participation of a Brazilian team in the “ICORP on the Road” project carried out by ICOMOS International Scientific Committee ICORP, which works in favor of the conservation and protection of cultural heritage around the world and assists UNESCO. This Project started in 2018, having the objective of capturing how survivors and experts have been dealing with calamities and tragedies from their perspectives. It seeks to understand the recovery process after the loss of material and immaterial heritage. To date, “ICORP on the ROAD” has launched four episodes filmed in different countries where earthquakes, terrorist attacks, and intentional destruction of national heritage have occurred. The Fundao dam rupture, which took place on November 5th, 2015, in Mariana, Minas Gerais, motivated the making of its fifth episode. It focuses on the rupture’s impacts along the Doce River basin, the fight and reconstruction processes of the affected people, and experts. It became evident that the connection between the communities and their heritage contributes to building up stamina to deal with losses. This audiovisual series can make a difference in extending knowledge on cultural heritage by reaching a wider public, presenting different perspectives, and promoting preparedness among other groups for their heritage conservation.
