Abstract

The article focuses on presenting the specificities of architecture and urbanism collections from two aspects of their constitution: objects and documents, which are not exclusive in terms of importance, are complementary to the preservation of the memory of Brazilian architecture. Two different collections on the subject are presented as an example: one public, focused on documentation; and a private one, focused mainly on objects. The first case is the collection of the Research and Documentation Nucleus of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of UFRJ, a documentation center that houses documents such as: projects, plans, drawings, manuscripts, cartography, as well as magazines, periodicals and architecture books. and urbanism. The second refers to the Carlos Barroso Collection, belonging to the Instituto Memória da Arquitetura Brasileira, a vast and differentiated collection of pieces that have a connection or reference to modern architecture; involving sculptures, works of art, numismatics, ceramics, furniture, among others. The analysis and identification of these two types of collections, as well as the comparison of their specificities, direct us to some points of documentation and preventive conservation of each one of them. And finally, it presents us with the vision of patrimonialization of these as well as the need for their dissemination through research and teaching.
