Abstract

The aim of this work was to research the environmental geochemical quality of superficial waters of The Formoso River, the major tributary on the left margin of The São Francisco River, in Buritizeiro-MG. The Sub basin was chosen due to its natural particularities and anthrop characteristics. The study assessed heavy metal Fe, Al, Mn, Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Zn, Pb concentration and distribution as well as physicochemical parameters in situ: Ph, temperature, electric conductivity and turbidity along the longitudinal profile of the river, correlating its presence to natural environments and the anthropogenic interferences. Obtained results were compared to oriented values established by CONAMA 357/05 Norm. For this research it were used samples from 22 points collected in two field campaigns with a total of 42 water samples; multi-Parameter and filtration portable equipments and total heavy metal determination was done by ICP-OES. Results obtained pointed that heavy metal levels Fe, Al, Mn, Cr, Cd were at variance with CONAMA 357/05 Norm; from values obtained in situ for physicochemical parameters only pH is above the value established in the CONAMA, 357/05 Norm. Metallic cations Cd and Cr availability results from metal-organic residues produced by commercial agriculture; Fe, Al and Mn are correlated to geological and pedological variables present in the region. Although several parameters analyzed are within accepted patterns, monitoring of these important hydro resources is relevant once they are used for water supplying, fishery and entertainment.
