Dissensual bodies: an analysis of Pedro II Avenue's transvestites and trans women experiences

Abstract

In the dark corners of Belo Horizonte’s Pedro II Avenue, trans bodies call and are called. They erupt from the aesthetic experience of daily flow, generating small crises (Gumbrecht, 2006). The process of subjectification of transvestites and trans women is marked by an ambiguity of police and politics distribution of sensible (RANCIÈRE, 2005). These lives are marked by the precariousness (BUTLER, 1999, 2018) of being excluded from the city, forced to live in the closet (SEDGWICK, 2007). Chambers (2010) reflects, through Rancière, that Plato's model of polis organizes a city according to the characteristics of its subjects. Excesses, such as philosophers and artists, were expelled to ensure their proper functionality. Rancière (apud Chambers, 2010) partly realizes (RANCIÈRE, 2005) a potential for grow changeness and then creates police’s distribution of the sensible. Able to affect and to be affected, to change and to be changed, a transvestite body in a corner breaks out in the city's experiences, even though this is the only place that fits them. From the self-narratives transcripted in Translado (GERMAN et al. 2018), the paper discusses how the body can instigate other processes of subjectivation (RANCIÈRE, 2006) and other distribution of sensible (RANCIÈRE, 2005).
