The present text was inspired by the discussions undertaken during the course “Cartography of Living” and the researches developed in our group A.T.A (UFSJ), as well as by the debates that took place in the seminar “Innovation in Politics and Space”, organized by the Space Laboratory of IPPUR (UFRJ). The essay comes from the convergence of writings and reflections cultivated during the last year. With the pandemics in 2020, we were immersed in a context of insecurity, sharing a perspective in which the virus points to a possible end for humanity. This reality makes inequalities flourish and amplifies social-spatial segregation to the contemporary digital universe. The present essay is an attempt to reflect upon social memory from the production and consumption of images as well as upon virtuality and visibility in a pandemic atmosphere. Starting from the perspectives shared in our researches, we aim to think on the role of photography and its impact as an instrument for social-spatial transformation and also as a “social document” in an era of objectification of the bodies.
