Distance education and university libraries Mapping scientific production

Abstract
This study is an excerpt from the ongoing thesis whose research theme is university libraries and distance education. The article in focus has as general objective to present the panorama of research in Distance Education, from the journals, theses and dissertations in the area of Information Science and Library Science, with emphasis on the works published on libraries in the context of Distance Education. The methodology included a survey on the websites of the magazines and the theses and dissertations published in Brazil. The results showed that the theme has been approached in a timid way, but this does not reflect the importance of the theme for Information Science and society. The scientific production of the theme can be present in articles of events or published in other areas of knowledge such as Education, among others. This dispersion implies that the theme of distance education at the heart of libraries is in the process of consolidation.
