This article investigates the aesthetic convergence and the collaborative effect between image and word in the poetry of Jussara Salazar. The central objective is to demonstrate how the imagery and dreamlike constructions in Salazar’s work establish dialogues through the lens of Wolfgang Iser’s reception aesthetics. Methodologically, the work relates surrealist and baroque movements to the author’s writing and to Borges’s poetics of the double to analyze the creation of the afterimage effect. The theoretical framework draws on authors such as Bachelard (2008), Roas (2014), and Todorov (1981) to discuss the fantastic and symbolic circularity. The analysis focuses on the poems “I. Ondulados” and “II. Perspicazes” (Natália, 2004) in correlation with texts from Dreamtigers (2008) and The Book of Imaginary Beings (2007). Results indicate that images of spirals, mirrors, and blades function as devices for destabilizing reality and fostering aesthetic reverberation. It concludes that the dream acts as a mediating instance between mythos and logos, revealing a shared structure of mimesis that reconfigures the reader’s perception of Salazar through the Borgesian echoes in the analyzed poems.
