Abstract

Surveys from 1929 to 1944 on reading preferences made amongst Belo Horizonte junior fourth grade students are repeated in 1993 amongst a population with age between 9 and 16 years, discriminated by social and economical level if private school student, (A), or if state school,(C). By a comparative analysis between present and former results, it was noticed how the historical context and the social environment circumscribe the books available for the students choice.
