Abstract

This article discusses the notion of grammar based on use by presenting a discursive approach to grammar teaching, aiming at discussing the complexities of the grammatical system as a function of its communicative purposes. The article also brings an analysis of some grammar activities developed by Brazilian teachers of English as a foreign language from an in-service diploma course at a public university in Brazil. Such activities corroborate the idea that a theoretical approach to grammar and use can be an integral part of language teaching.
