Abstract

This study intended to verify if the nurses plan their daily work; find out how the planning is carried out and identify the existence of gaps. It was carried out at a teaching hospital, with 47 nurses in charge of wards. The data was collected through questionnaires and descriptively analyzed. It was found that 95.74% of the nurses did work planning. Among these, 84.44% did it daily; 68.88% did it only mentally. For the planning stages, 95.56% of the nurses identify the service needs; 95.56% define priorities; 48.89% set goals; 8.,22% define the actions; 40% determine the time necessary to execute of the plan, 64.44% list the necessary material for the activities and 75.56% determine who will carry out the actions. With regard to the team involved in the planning, it was observed that 64.44% admit to participating very often, mainly in identifying the needs. Describing the planning by the nurses makes it possible to think about its use, effectiveness and optimization of nursing services.
