God is unconditional presence to woman with possibility to become mutilated

Abstract

The possibility of becoming mutilated and the way this experience inserts into the world of women with breast cancer is the purpose of this study. In order to understand this experience I based myself on qualitative research, with a phenomenological approach, with the guiding question: "What does it mean to live through this moment before mastectomy?" Analyzing the statements of seven women, support from God showed itself to be significant and became one of the sub-categories of the study. The recognition of a superior being, more specifically, God, clearly shows the need for spiritual support, which women need to face the fear, solitude, anguish and the unknown and, consequently, to live the current moment with more hope and confidence.
