This is a bibliographical review to analyze the conciliation of humanization and the use of technology for patients in intensive care units. The period chosen was the last eleven years, that is, 1993-2003. The sources used were: LILACS and BDENF, which made possible a careful reading of abstracts and articles and building four categories: the use of technology in the diagnostic-therapeutic process; the point of view of health workers and of patients; carelessness inside the ICU; humanization in the ICU; a path in construction and humanized care: loving your neighbor as yourself. This study means we can say that a critical and reflected position is needed with regard to the use of technology in ICUs, and that nurses must be a humanized presence to patients.Downloads
