Alimentação é base de sobrevivência para os animais porque através dela adquirem-se os nutrientes que participam de reações químicas para gerar energia, construir células e tecidos e permitir o desempenho de funções biológicas. O conhecimento tecnológico adquirido pela espécie humana ao longo de sua existência permitiu o crescimento demográfico, a evolução intelectual e cognitiva, a revolução industrial e a promoção/manutenção da saúde. Medicina Culinária define o renascimento de uma área de atuação médica com capacidade para tratar distúrbios alimentares com impacto gigantesco sobre a saúde da espécie humana.
