ABSTRACT: With the global demographic shift characterized by population aging, it is necessary to understand the relationship between economic sophistication, measured by economic complexity, and the inclusion of the elderly in the labor market. Using panel data models, this study aimed to empirically contribute to the understanding of this issue. It was observed that, while it is common to find a positive relationship between complexity and employment in general, this dynamic is different when it comes to the employment of the elderly in the municipalities of Minas Gerais. The results diverge from the findings in the literature, especially when compared to studies conducted in developed countries.
