The university library as a space for teaching and learning in higher education: an experience report on Book and Library Week at a private higher education institution

Abstract

Like the school library, which must establish a partnership with educational institutions and their grades, from early childhood education to higher education, the university library needs to partner with the university's academic community to build great learning rooms. During the Book and Library Week promoted by the university library of a private educational institution in the city of Bauru (SP), various activities were held in partnership with the institutional courses in order to contribute to the teaching, participation and learning not only of the local students but also of the surrounding community. Through practices such as book and work exhibitions, film screenings, experience reports, expression theater and literary soirees, the library aimed to bring together the theory and practice of the professions with students and teachers in the library space. As a result, it was possible to see that the space was better used as an extension of the classroom, as well as providing activities of interest to the community, introducing students from other stages of education to the world of higher education and, consequently, providing practical exposure of the professions and courses involved in the event, resulting in a closer relationship with the academic public and expanding the possibilities for publicizing the library.
