Academic publishing is undergoing a profound revolution, in which both new potential and resistance are becoming clear. In the digital age, material support has become largely superfluous, and planetary connectivity enables a widespread collaborative environment, a vital institutional dimension in the economy of creativity. The two essential dimensions that technologies enable, namely gratuity and accessibility, favor the current explosion of scientific advances. But in the tripod made up of content creators, intermediaries and users, there remains a profound imbalance, which is holding back progress. The article presents the new challenges with examples.
