Abstract

Interview carried out by Dr. Patrícia Valadão (UFMG), Deputy Editor of the Revista de Música Vocal Erudita Brasileira, with Dr. Lenine Santos, professor at the School of Music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, with the historical background of the creation of the research group Acervo de Partituras Hermelindo Castelo Branco – APHECAB, which houses thousands of scores by more than 2,600 composers, some of them unknown and not biographed to date. A source for research in several areas (performance and musicology, mainly), APHECAB, in the words of professor Lenine Santos, was chosen by the editors to inaugurate the Interview Section of the Revista de Música Vocal Erudita Brasileira.

Author Biographies

Patrícia Valadão, Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) (UFMG)

Born in Ipatinga - MG, pianist and harpsichordist, she holds a PhD in Music Performance from UNICAMP. She has been a permanent member of the teaching staff at the School of Music of the Federal University of Minas Gerais since 2011. She directs the program "No Universo da Música", which airs weekly on Rede Super TV. As a harpsichordist, she has performed in important solo concerts or accompanied the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, the Sesiminas Orchestra and the Cuiabá Philharmonic. As a solo pianist, she has performed in Brazil and abroad, at the Salão Nobre do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (Lisbon, Portugal), Palácio de Mafra (Mafra, Portugal) and Teatro Nacional Argentino (La Plata, Argentina). As a chamber pianist, she works intensively with singers and instrumentalists in a variety of ensembles in important concert halls in Brazil and abroad. As a preparatory pianist (correpetidora), her repertoire includes more than 40 titles of musical works, including oratorios and operas. Official pianist at the Bidu Sayão (Brazil, 2000) and Luisa Todi (Setúbal/Lisbon, Portugal, since 2007) international singing competitions.

Lenine Santos, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) (UFRJ)

He has a PhD in Singing from UNESP-SP (2011) and a post-doctorate in musicology (FAPESP/UNICAMP). He has taught at several important teaching institutions in Brazil, such as Faculdade Cantareira-SP, Instituto de Artes da UNESP, Instituto de Artes da UNICAMP, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and Universidade Estadual do Paraná (UNESPAR), and is frequently invited to teach at various music festivals and courses in Brazil and abroad. He is currently an adjunct professor at the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro-UFRJ, and is a permanent member of the Professional Postgraduate Program in Music (PROMUS). His doctoral thesis, O canto sem casaca: propriedades pedagógicas da canção brasileira e seleção de repertório para o ensino de canto no Brasil, is dedicated to analyzing the classical, folkloric and popular Brazilian songbook as material for teaching singing in Brazil. As a researcher, in addition to investigations into performance, musicology and singing pedagogy, he works on the dissemination and interpretation of Brazilian chamber music in recitals and recordings, giving premieres of well-known Brazilian composers such as Edmundo Villâni-Cortes, Osvaldo Lacerda, Achille Picchi, Amaral Vieira, Kilza Setti, Almeida Prado, Sérgio Vasconcelos Corrêa, Nestor de Hollanda Cavalcanti, Tim Rescala, Arrigo Barnabé, Harry Crowl and Gilberto Mendes.
