Aiming to understand the vocational profile of students of the Integrated Technical Education to Secondary Education (ETIM) of IFPB (João Pessoa Campus), this census-type study investigated 8 ETIM courses of this institution by applying – in mid-2024 – a questionnaire (closed modeling) to incoming and graduating students. It started from the theoretical-critical filter of historical-dialectical materialism to the analysis of the data to understand the multiple conditioning factors of the phenomenon problematized here as a structured and moving whole, namely, the currentness of the formative imaginary of educators and students of IFPB (João Pessoa Campus) in the wake of the educational culture that prevailed in the historical path of the schools that preceded it. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the 213 questionnaires received (30.13% of the total sample universe) revealed results that allowed us to conclude: that those who seek this school expect an education that breaks with the educational dualism that used to relegate the school of doing to the working classes; that they express educational expectations more related to the concept of integrated education (a hallmark of the IFs) than to the “excellence” of technical training that marked the fame of the schools that preceded them, since 1909; that it is urgent for the educational managers of this school to implement the educational requirements of integrated education, moving away from technical perspectives of professional training and promoting an omnilateral and polytechnic education.
