The State of the Art on the Relationship Between Intertextuality and Adaptation Studies

Every adaptation can serve as an intertext for future adaptations or even establish correspondence with the first text. Thus, we can say that the intertext is relevant for a better understanding of the adaptive phenomenon, since no production in itself is original, having debts and credits compared with its predecessors. In this sense, we propose a discussion between Adaptation Studies and the theory of intertextuality to show how important the presence of the intertext is in a new adapted production. For this purpose, we use the reflections of Roland Barthes (2004), Tiphaine Samoyault (2008) and Kamilla Elliott (2020), among other researchers who have been studying this fruitful correspondence between the phenomenon of adaptation and the intertextual variant.
