Hélène Cixous developed a careful study on the relationship between women, language, and writing, entitled The Laugh of the Medusa. The strangeness of the image, based on the treatment given to the myth of the woman with snakes on her head, is also the feeling we have when thinking about women’s writing. Because of this, Medusa’s laugh is the starting point for discussing the peculiarities of comedy developed by female authors. To illustrate the work with humor and laughter, we looked at the plays Phaedra’s Love, by Sarah Kane, and We Want You to Watch, written by Alice Birch in partnership with RashDash.
