Colombus’ First Westbound Voyage: Fears and the Concept of Man at Start of the Early Modern Period

This article suggests a reading to Columbus’ log of the first voyage from Spain to the Indies, sailing westward, in 1492. Firstly, there is an attempt to present the concepts about the world and the Ocean current at that time in history. After that, analyzing Columbus’ log, we identify his impressions about sea crossing and about sailors and their fears. This article aims to understand and explain the Renaissance concept of man, using the way Columbus thought about himself during that journey as a starting point.
